Social care provider, Avenues Group, has been working with local communities on the pioneering community connecting project It Takes 2.

The project, which has been funded by The Big Lottery, aims to bring a new approach to building community ties.

It Takes 2 has connected those facing the greatest barriers to fellow residents in both Bromley and Greenwich to participate in community life. Pairings have been made based on shared hobbies and skills – from swimming to gardening; from sharing a love of music to joining a walking group.

It is a demonstration of Avenues’ vision of giving everyone the opportunity to be active citizens and to be engaged in the community where they live. Through sharing and practicing a mutual interest with another person the feeling of loneliness, which many of us experience at some point in our life, can be greatly reduced.

It Takes 2 ambassador, Jennifer Gibb, who acts as the voice for the project says “It Takes 2 is about being with other people and sharing our lives together; I think this is important. My experience with the project has been valuable and I have made many good friends.”

It Takes 2 is a three year project that started in January 2016 and has successfully matched a number of people within the Bromley and Greenwich communities so far. Being at the half way point, there is still plenty of time for people to volunteer to get involved. Anyone in the community can take part and they are looking to match more people.
