A messy encounter between elderly residents and nursery children took place in Widnes as part of National Play Day celebrations.

Nursery and care home join forces to celebrate National Play Day, using the intergenerational model popularised by recent Channel 4 programme Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds.

Halton View Care Home welcomed Dunky’s Day Nursery to create homemade playdough and share lunch with the residents.

Flour went flying as the children mixed it with water and food colouring to create the vibrant dough, with residents watching on and lending a helping hand.

Amanda Kelly, home manager at Halton View Care Home, on Sadler Street, Widnes, said: “We often invite local nursery groups to visit the residents as it’s always so beneficial for both.

“National Play Day was another opportunity for us to entertain children from the local Dunky’s Day Nursery.

“Everyone had a great and very messy time creating playdough before sharing lunch together. We’re already looking forward to their next visit.”
