SHEFFCARE, the not for profit organisation that operates a chain of 11 residential care homes across Sheffield, also offers day care services at six of its sites.
The aim of the service is to help people maintain their independence but at the same time reduce isolation and loneliness, providing a place to meet friends and enjoy activities together.
“As a day centre visitor you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people and to enjoy a wide range of organised daily activities whilst still living in your own home,” said Sheffcare Chief Executive Belinda Black.
“Our users are welcome to visit the day centres for as many days each week as they would like and enjoy a delicious lunch – our meals are a big attraction, freshly cooked in the kitchens each day.
“Many new friendships are formed and it is also an ideal way to explore new interests.
“There’s the opportunity for a little pampering too as day centre users are welcome to take advantage of our in-house hairdressing, chiropody or beauty therapist services.”
The service is currently being provided at six Sheffcare sites – Castelayn, Cotleigh, Deerlands, Knowle Hill, Springwood and Hawkhills.
Users can make their own way to the centres or be collected in one of the specially adapted Sheffcare minibuses, with the average day running from around 10am to 3pm, with both morning and afternoon activities, morning tea and coffee and lunch.
“Our day centre care plans are personalised to meet individual needs,” said Belinda.
“We can provide transport and an escort to ensure that you don’t miss that important hospital appointment and we can help you with your shopping or laundry or we can provide a bathing service.
“We also provide day care for people living with Dementia. The day care facilities offer activities to help people with Dementia and we ensure that we are meeting the needs of people living with Dementia.
“If you are a carer, our services allow also you to have a few hours well-deserved break.”
