Essex Independent Care Association

Essex Independent Care Association (EICA) is an independent voluntary ‘not for profit’ organisation which represents the interests of social care providers from Essex, Southendon-Sea and Thurrock. Care provider members include residential care homes, nursing homes and home care providers. Provider members provide a wide range of services working with older people, those with learning disabilities, children and young people with disabilities and working age adults.

The Association offers members a range of services to meet their needs and a mutual support network. Services include:

• Disclosure and Barring Service for care providers to enable them to recruit their staff safely and with confidence.

• Members’ briefings: regular information sessions for care providers on a wide range of topics to support good practice throughout the social care sector in Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock.

• A website to keep members abreast of new developments within the sector, whilst signposting them to sources of information which may be helpful to them in running their organisation.

• Information, advice and guidance on staff training and development, as well as funding to help care providers train their staff.

• Support for the My Home Life scheme, which promotes best practice by creating a positive
culture in care homes based on a relationship centered approach. It recognises that caring
communities are created through good relationships, first with ourselves and then between work colleagues, residents, family, friends and the wider community. Training managers to create such an environment is essential in establishing such a culture.
