Throughout April 2016 Calvert Trust Exmoor will be celebrating 20 years of supporting people with disabilities from across the South west and beyond to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure.
Calvert Trust Exmoor runs the only 5 star Activity Centre in the country, and caters for people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities of all ages and levels of ability, together with their families, friends and carers. Activities on offer include sailing, horse riding, wheelchair abseiling, accessible cycling and archery. Almost 4,000 guests had a residential break with Calvert Trust Exmoor last year.
Founded as a charity in August 1991, the charity spent several years fundraising, renovating and adapting, before opening the doors of their beautiful Victorian farm building to the first guests on the 7th of April 1996.
Tony Potter, Chief Executive of Calvert Trust Exmoor said; “This is a fantastic milestone to reach, we are delighted that we’ve been able to assist in excess of 30,000 people in our first 20 years.
Looking at the next 20 years our challenge is to continue to meet the increasing aspirations of disabled people who want to enjoy the challenges of outdoor adventure. To do so we will need to develop new highly accessible activities whilst at the same time ensuring our facilities develop to meet the demands of our visitor’s needs.”
Calvert Trust Exmoor has won several awards in the last few months, including Gold in the Visit Devon Awards in November 2015, Gold in the South West Tourism Awards in February 2016, and Silver in the Access for All category at Visit England Tourism Awards in March 2016.
