We carried out this inspection under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. This inspection was planned to check whether the provider is meeting the legal requirements and regulations associated with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, to look at the overall quality of the service, and to provide a rating for the service under the Care Act 2014.
This inspection took place on 25 January and 1 February 2018 and was announced. We gave the registered manager 48 hoursâ notice of our inspection. We did this because the registered manager is sometimes out of the office supporting staff or visiting people who use the service. We needed to be sure that they would be in. The inspection was carried out by one inspector and an expert by experience. The expert by experienceâs area of expertise was in caring for older people and using care agencies.
This was the serviceâs first inspection since they registered with CQC. Before the inspection the provider completed a Provider Information Return (PIR). This is a form that asks the provider to give some key information about the service, what the service does well and improvements they plan to make. We reviewed the information we held about the service. We reviewed the notifications about important events which the service is required to send us by law.
We spoke with four people who were using the service and 11 peopleâs relatives or friends. We also spoke five care staff, the registered manager and three representatives of the provider. We reviewed five people's care files, staff training and recruitment records and records relating to the general management of the service. We also received feedback from a health care professional.
