Residents and staff of St Catherines View celebrated the Winchester care home’s fifth birthday with a Hawaiian-themed party.

The landscaped gardens of the £8m Colten Care-owned home in Stanmore Lane were festooned with polynesian flowers for the occasion.

Residents wore Lei garlands and feasted on fruity cocktails and a barbeque banquet.

Staff also got into the spirit by donning sarongs and Hawaiian shirts and everyone enjoyed a special island-inspired cake, complete with an edible palm tree, which was created by the home’s chef Jamelle Alolor.

St Catherines View is a specialist dementia care home and was opened by Colten Care in 2012.
Within a year it was named Best Specialist Dementia Facility at the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.

The home employs around 140 staff including mental health nurses and specialist carers.
All employees, regardless of their role, undertake the Dementia Friends initiative and Colten Care provides them with added awareness, to better understand the condition and deliver the best possible care.

St Catherines View has themed activity rooms for memory work and arts and crafts to help residents retain practical life skills for as long as possible.

Manager Vanda Baker said: “The party was a great success and the celebrations lasted all day thanks to the hard work of our entire team.”
