Help to learn IT skills and get online

If you are a community group who wants to help your members learn basic digital skills but need a bit more support, then a Digital Champion might be just the job. Digital Champions are volunteers who have been trained by Cheshire East Council to help people learn or improve their IT skills and use the internet. They offer friendly support tailored to the needs and interests of each learner at a pace that suits them.

Digital Champions can help people learn how to:

  • Use a laptop, tablet or PC for the first time.
  • Keep in touch with friends or family online by using email, Skype or FaceTime.
  • Stay safe on the internet.
  • Shop online safely.
  • Find out what events and activities are happening in their local area.
  • Find information on a health condition using NHS Choices or other trusted health websites or apps.

Local community groups, churches, social clubs and charities in Cheshire East are all eligible to receive this support. If you would like a Digital Champion to support your organisation or group, please contact the Digital Inclusion Team.

Volunteers needed to become Digital Champions
Why not become a Digital Champion and help someone else discover a whole new world? Cheshire East Council is looking for people who enjoy using the internet, have good digital skills and are happy to give a bit of their time to help someone else learn. You don’t have to be a technical whizz but do need to be empathetic and patient. Your support will be invaluable in helping more Cheshire East residents to take those first few steps into the digital world.

Digital Champions are invited to attend a half-day course before being matched up with a local community group or organisation which is helping residents to get online. To find out how to apply, please visit or email
