Introduction from Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council
Tameside Council is committed to supporting local citizens to remain as independent as possible and living in their own homes for as long as they can safely do so. As well as sign-posting people to access activities and support independently, Adult Services offers a number of services focussed on preventing people from becoming dependent on others for their care and support needs.
Local, community-based groups and organisations, assistive technology and the Council’s Reablement Service can help people to feel supported and safe at home, whilst home care and residential care is available as and when required.
With a focus on a preventative, enabling approach where people are supported to be as independent as they can be, services are set up to ensure that people are encouraged to maximise self-reliance and to learn or relearn skills in order to remain as active as possible. Adult Services works closely with other organisations, both in the independent and voluntary sectors, to ensure that support services are joined-up and integrated by way of reducing confusion or duplication for services users and their families.
If you haven’t already heard of the new Care Act, you may well do so soon. It’s a new piece of law which will come into effect during April 2015, making positive changes to the way care and support is provided for adults and carers. It will mean that a wider range of good quality services give you more control and help them to make more personalised choices over your care, resulting in even better care that works for you.
The Act is designed to ensure that people receive services that prevent their care needs from becoming more serious, or delay the impact of their needs; can get the information and advice they need to make good decisions about care and support; and have a range of high-quality care providers to choose from.
The aim of this Directory is to provide Tameside residents with details of services which are locally available to meet their social care needs such as extra care housing and domiciliary care as well as services for people who need more intensive 24 hour care in a residential or nursing home environment.
We want to make sure that the process of accessing care services is as straightforward as possible and is easily understood.
