To mark Dementia Awareness Week (17th-23rd May), staff at The Dynes Care Home in Kemsing invited residents to enjoy a week of fun and creative activities.
Always on the lookout for innovative and beneficial activities for the residents of the Nightingale Road care home, staff at The Dynes created an innovative calendar of exciting events and activities to run throughout Dementia Awareness Week.
The residents were encouraged to get involved with an array of stimulating activities, a couple of which included crafting homemade lavender bags and an afternoon of baking.
Working together the residents whipped up some delicious homemade sausage rolls as well as tasty jam tarts, which they enjoyed for their tea alongside a cuppa.
Nicky Pett, home manager of The Dynes commented: “Raising awareness of the symptoms of dementia and how to live with it is absolutely vital as currently over 800,000 people in the UK are living with the condition and that figure is expected to reach one million by 2025.
“A number of our residents may be living with dementia but that doesn’t mean they can’t still embrace new activities and enjoy the things they used to before moving into a care home.”
