Middleton Hall Retirement Village’s popular village show is building on the success of its inaugural event with an even bigger programme for its second year.
The 2019 show, which takes place on Saturday 7 September in the grounds of Middleton Hall at Middleton St George, near Darlington, features an afternoon of wide-ranging family entertainment.
What to expect
A range of entries in 36 competition classes, up from 26 last year, will be showcasing a range of skills and activities including fruit and vegetable growing, arts and crafts, cookery and children’s categories.
The results of awards for the funniest shaped vegetable, the best decorated ‘Showstopper’ cake, heaviest onion, biggest pumpkin and the winning vegimal – an animal made from fruit or vegetables – will be on display alongside a range of traditional village show categories and the much-anticipated Best in Show award winner.
Four-legged visitors can also take part in the dog show which includes awards for the best veteran, best puppy, waggiest tail and the dog the judges would like to take home.
Entertainment for the event includes performances by the Texas Toe Tappers, Richmond Castle Clog dancers, and the Middleton Hall singing group.
A barbecue as well as a number of market stalls, tombola and information stands are also being laid on for the day.
Last year’s show
Last year’s show attracted entries and crowds of visitors from Middleton Hall’s surrounding communities as well as residents and their families.
Audra Hunt, Living Well and Training Manager at Middleton Hall, said: “Last September, we celebrated the birth of the Middleton Hall Village Show, an idea inspired by both residents and co-owners, and we were amazed by the number, the quality and creativity of entries in an array of classes and the pride that was evident with every entry.
“It was such an enjoyable day and we are so pleased to be running an even bigger event this year. We are really looking forward to giving visitors a big Middleton Hall welcome.”
