Memory Matters Group
Activity and support for people affected by dementia. These groups include activities for everyone and are respectful, creative, innovative, multi-sensory and fun. They are supported by skilled staff encouraging someone with dementia to do something creative and realise their potential, improving self-esteem and reducing loneliness.
Having emotional support and practical advice from someone who understands what you’re going through might be life changing. Memory Matters offers a reassuring, confidential and safe place to talk to others about how dementia affects your life.
Make new friends, share experiences and be honest, without fear or embarrassment. Get tips from group members on how to support someone with dementia, as well as how to keep looking after yourself, and have your questions answered by highly-skilled, compassionate and experienced staff that run the sessions.
Groups are normally available in Northampton, Kettering, Corby, Irthlingborough, Daventry, Towcester and Greens Norton. Please note that days and times are subject to change during the year; to check for any alterations, call the Northamptonshire office on 01832 736670.
Singing for the Brain Groups
Bringing people together in a friendly, fun and social environment. Based around the principles of music therapy, the stimulating sessions for people living with dementia and their carers include vocal warm-ups and singing a wide variety of songs. Meet others living with similar experiences in a relaxed setting and join in as much or as little as you like.
Groups are normally available in Northampton, Corby, Kettering and Greens Norton. For more information, contact the Singing for the Brain leader on 01832 736670.
Side by Side Befriending Service
Side by Side pairs a local volunteer to a person with dementia based on similar hobbies, interests or life experiences. The Side by Side volunteer then visits either weekly or fortnightly for a few hours to support the person with dementia to continue to do the things they love, or even to try something new. This can include helping out at their allotment, joining a local club, going to yoga, visiting a historic building or just going for a stroll in the park.
The Side by Side service does not cover the personal care of people with dementia or supporting them in their own home or supporting them with activities of daily living such as housework, cooking or grocery shopping.
Northampton Day Centre
For people who have a diagnosis of dementia. It is an ideal source of support, friendship and encouragement, as well as providing a few hours of respite for a carer. Activities can include multi-sensory, arts and crafts, reminiscence, gentle exercise, musical entertainment and dementia-friendly games.
