This has been a grievance for several months but have not been able to publish this review due to the guilt I have felt for putting my father into this place. Poor care. Do not understand end of life care, should not advertise they can support this. Some staff talk down to residents. Residents are left in bathrooms for over 30 minutes, often calling and ringing bells for attention. Call bells unanswered. Staff don’t answer the front doorbell and visitors are left not being able to get in to see their loved ones. Food repetitive and unappetising. Poor management, unhappy staff. Families not kept updated about care / incidents of their loved ones. Staff often treat residents like they are senile and can’t make their own decisions, whereas many do have the capacity to be able to. Please look beyond the face of this care home before making any decisions to book your loved ones into here.

My father was recently sent to Oakwood house for end-of-life care and I cannot fault the care he received or the praise the staff at oakwood enough. My father had advanced Alzheimer’s dementia and after a stay in hospital his needs were too much for him to return to his previous care home, I was faced with the obvious worry and distress of dad moving elsewhere for his remaining time. As soon as I walked through the door at oakwood, I was met with nothing but kindness from everyone from reception, housekeeping, maintenance and care/nursing staff everyone went out of their way to answer any questions and make sure dad received the best care possible for his remaining time. I visited every day and at no point was I ever concerned at the nursing care dad was receiving from his mouthcare, dad’s personal hygiene, his room was always clean and fresh everything was always perfect, this was such a relief at such a distressing time. The staff I met at Oakwood are a credit to the caring profession and they have my heartfelt thanks for the care they showed to dad and myself. I personally have no hesitation in recommending the home for nursing care.

I recently had a chat with Oakwood house regarding care for my grandad which led onto a tour around the home and I could not have left feeling more reassured! My grandad has been at Oakwood for 2 weeks now and after transitioning into his ‘new normal’ absolutely loves it! Finding somewhere that genuinely cares about their residents is something that’s proved difficult so far past the first initial look around, but after looking round Oakwood I finally felt reassured that my grandad would be receiving the care he needs while still keeping his independence. The activities they have on offer are amazing - they have such a good variety and I love that they’re always making days for activities to include family of the residents. Thank you Oakwood for giving me peace of mind and lifting a weight off my shoulders knowing my grandad will be in good care without me having to worry about him being on his own.

We have now had three relatives who have stayed at Oakwood House and have found the staff to be caring and considerate of individual needs and requirements. The food is excellent and there are organised activities each day so something to please most residents. The hairdresser visits weekly along with singers, animals, choirs, school visits and trips outs. In the warmer weather residents have walks or gatherings in the garden enjoying coffee mornings or afternoon tea. The staff work very hard to ensure everyone's needs are met and we have found them to be discreet and confidential. Too many staff to mention individually but we noticed a bad review for Shirley earlier and have to say we have found her to be excellent and caring in every way.

I recently came to Oakwood House for their Open Afternoon and was blown away by the level of care and quality of life that the people living there have. It was so much fun! We all had a picnic outside, there was live music, lovely food, laughter, singing, sunshine- it was a beautiful day- and in such lovely surroundings too! It completely changed my mindset on care homes. Thank you to all the team there for making it so special :)
