Ian Trenholm, the Chief Executive of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), has announced that he will step down from his position and leave the Board at the end of June.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the organisation responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and regulating health and social care services in England to ensure they meet high standards of quality and safety. They work to ensure that people receive safe, effective, compassionate, and high-quality care.
Kate Terroni, currently the Deputy Chief Executive, will step in as Interim Chief Executive until a permanent replacement is found.
Reflecting on his decision, Ian said, “During my six years leading the CQC, we have made important changes to improve care and keep people safe. We are now completing a major transformation project, and this month we hit the last big milestone.
“Although there’s always more work to do, this feels like a good time for me to move on. It has been an honor to work with such a dedicated and talented team.
“I am very proud of what we have achieved together, and I am confident that the organization will continue to support the health and care system in providing good, safe care for people.”
CQC Chair Ian Dilks added, “The Board would like to thank Ian for his contributions over the years and for guiding us towards becoming a more effective regulator.
“My colleagues and I look forward to supporting and working with Kate as we continue to develop the CQC.”
