CQC rating – what’s this?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the official regulator for the care sector. They inspect care homes and care services to make sure they are safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led.

There are four ratings awarded:

  • Outstanding
  • Good
  • Requires improvement
  • Inadequate

SCI rating – what’s this?

The Scottish Care Inspectorate (SCI) is the official regulator for care services in Scotland.

They inspect care services to ensure they are supporting peoples wellbeing; appropriately setup; properly planning out care; are well led; and effectively staffed, each criteria is given a grade out of 6.

  1. Unsatisfactory
  2. Weak
  3. Adequate
  4. Good
  5. Very good
  6. Excellent

CIW rating – what’s this?

Care Services in Wales are inspected and regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales to ensure everyone gets safe, high-quality care that meets their needs. Care Services in Wales are not allowed to operate unless they’re registered with the Care Inspectorate.

Care services are evaluated in the following areas: Wellbeing, Care & Support, Environment, Leadership & Management.
