At Dover House we offer a home for life with Registered Nurses on hand to cater to the changing needs of individual residents, with a focus on care for those with dementia.
It is critical that we serve our residents well, and we seek to do this using the principles of Servant Leadership.
At Dover House, we have implemented a Care Companion Model to ensure that the folks in our care receive personalised companionship from a small pool of assigned staff. We’ve also launched a campaign to reduce shift-tasking (such as medication rounds, continence management and tea breaks) and enable staff to focus more on engaging with those in their care.
The Care Companions are allotted a number of residents for each day, usually between six and eight people. They assist them with all facets of daily living, administering regular medications when required. If additional help is needed beyond one companion’s capacity, ‘Helpers’ can be called upon for extra support.
Throughout the day they remain with their allocated residents to take part in meals, activities and night time routines—not just performing necessary tasks but conversing over coffee too! All companions have been trained up and deemed competent at administering resident medications equipped with the knowledge to do so as part of their morning schedule. Medications or Controlled Drugs necessitating further monitoring will continue to be overseen by our nurses per usual.
